About the Academy

In 1995 the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine was established by the Decree of the President of Ukraine.

The main task of the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine is to train, based on the already obtained degrees, and improve qualification of personnel of Ukraine’s diplomatic, consular, economic and other missions abroad to work at international organizations and state authorities dealing with Ukraine’s foreign policy issues, as well as to conduct scientific and analytical research in the international relations sphere.

The Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is a leading accredited at the IV level education institution in the system of training, retraining and improving the professional skills of the specialists to work in the international relations sphere. The Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine trains diplomatic personnel and prepares for the Master of Foreign Policy degree.

Professors and lecturers: 55 top-qualified specialists – academicians, professors, associated professors, notable diplomats, legal practitioners.

The education at the Academy is run on a full-time basis (training, retraining and improving the professional skills of the diplomatic service personnel.)

Continuing short-term courses for the Ministry’s personnel and other people being newly appointed Ambassadors, Minister Counsellors, and Consuls General are run at the Academy.

In the course of its over 10-year existence the Academy trained 373 top-qualified specialists, who made a worthy addition to the diplomatic personnel of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine with the Academy itself becoming an educational institution recognized not only in Ukraine but also abroad. The citizens of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Indonesia etc are being professionally trained in the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine.

The main activity goal of the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine in the international relations sphere is to establish and develop mutually beneficial co-operation with specialized education institutions and research centres of foreign countries. In the sphere of personnel training bilateral agreements on co-operation were signed with the diplomatic academies under the ministries of foreign affairs of Greece, Kazakhstan, Russia, Croatia and the Institute for Diplomatic Studies under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, stipulating the exchange of the teaching schedules, research literature, conducting joint research-to-practice conferences, students and lecturers exchange. The Academy takes an active part in the network of diplomatic educational institutions of the European Initiative countries and is a member of International Association of Diplomatic Academies’ Presidents.

The Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine takes part in a number of international programmes, has constructive relations with leading higher education institutions of the USA, the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Belgium, Slovakia, Poland, Austria, CIS countries etc.

Regular participation of the Academy’s academics and professors in international scientific conferences and seminars held in world’s leading countries proves the Diplomatic Academy’s international recognition as a centre for training the specialists for the foreign policy activity.

The Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine became an integral part of the present, as it was established in response to the urgent demand for personnel to serve in Ukraine’s diplomatic and consular services.

On March 31, 2010 a meeting of the teaching staff and students of the Diplomatic Academy, as well as representatives of research and analytical centers, professors and students from renowned universities in Ukraine was held with leading experts in the field of foreign policy and security Strobe Talbott - a former Deputy of State Secretary in the Clinton administration, the President of the most authoritative American "think tank" Brookings Institution, and Xavier Solana, the former EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy (1999-2009), former NATO Secretary General (1995-1999). Honourable guests visited the Diplomatic Academy on the invitation and due to support of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation and “Yalta European Strategy”. The moderator of the meeting was a well-known Ukrainian journalist Andriy Kulykov.

On March 22, 2010 Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine, MFA of Ukraine and Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University signed the Memorandum of Cooperation for the period of five years.

On February 17-21, 2010 Rector of the Diplomatic Academy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine prof. B. Humeniuk and the Head of Global and Regional Systems Department prof. S. Shergin participated in the international conference «"Yalta system" and the current world order: the problems of global and regional security». The conference was devoted to the 65-th anniversary of the Crimean (Yalta) conference and was held at the Livadia Palace-Museum (Yalta, Autonomous Republic of Crimea) with the participation of leading scientists, scholars, researchers, experts and practitioners from Ukraine and Russia, MPs of ARC, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps of Russia, USA, the United Kingdom and the European Commission to Ukraine.
