Experience in building of the independent Ukraine proved that its diplomacy has become one of the important factors of state forming. It has also demonstrated that an important guarantee for ensuring the state sovereignty, its worthy representation in the international arena, successful protection of national interests in the world is a professionalism of its specialists in the sphere of foreign relations. Therefore, the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine with all responsibility fulfills its main task, which is stipulated in the President’s decree, - the preparation and professional development of specialistsfor diplomatic and consular service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other government bodies dealing with foreign policy issues.
The Academy trainees receive a profound theoretical knowledge and practical skills in history and practice of diplomacy, international relations, European and Euro-Atlantic issues, geopolitical development of the countries that belong to the main regions of the world. Theyare familiar with modern information technologies and master at least two foreign languages.
More than ten years passed since the Diplomatic Academy first opened its doors to the trainees. During this time the Academy has prepared over five hundred highly qualified specialists with master degree in foreign policy who have become a valuable reinforcement to the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, and the Academy has become a recognized educational institution not only in Ukraine but also abroad. The Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine has more than 20 agreements on cooperation with the specialized training centers in foreign countries, implements major educational and scientific projects in cooperation with partner institutions from Austria, Canada, Estonia, Hungary, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
Among its numerous graduates the Academy is especially proud of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Iran Іhor Loginov, Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vasyl Kyrylych, Consul-General to Shanghai Hanna Karmadonova, Consul-General to Vladivostok Oleksandr Danilchenko, Deputy chief of the Department for European Integration of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Oleksandr Svyrydyuk, Deputy Director of the Department of International Relations, Border Service of Ukraine, Major-General Anatoliy Zaritsky, Head of Trade and Economic Mission in the Embassy of Ukraine to Belgium Oleksandr Gromov, People's deputies of Ukraine – Oksana Bilozir, Ihor Alekseyev, Vice President of the holding company «Kyivmiskbud» Petro Matsarskyy, President of the Ukrainian Foundation «People's embassy» Ihor Prystavskyy and many other officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Cabinet of Ministers, the President Secretariat, parliamentary committees and other state bodies.
So, the Academy today is a modern higher education institution established to provide graduate and post-experience training of professionals in the field of foreign affairs. It continues to steadily increase its capacity and perform the important state tasks in accordance with the “Conception of Development of the Diplomatic Academy in 2008 -2012”, approved on 29 October 2007 by the MFA Board decision.

On March 31, 2010 a meeting of the teaching staff and students of the Diplomatic Academy, as well as representatives of research and analytical centers, professors and students from renowned universities in Ukraine was held with leading experts in the field of foreign policy and security Strobe Talbott - a former Deputy of State Secretary in the Clinton administration, the President of the most authoritative American "think tank" Brookings Institution, and Xavier Solana, the former EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy (1999-2009), former NATO Secretary General (1995-1999). Honourable guests visited the Diplomatic Academy on the invitation and due to support of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation and “Yalta European Strategy”. The moderator of the meeting was a well-known Ukrainian journalist Andriy Kulykov.
On March 22, 2010 Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine, MFA of Ukraine and Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University signed the Memorandum of Cooperation for the period of five years.
On May 22, 2010 the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine holds an Open door day. Future applicants, their parents and dear guests are welcome to participate in the event.
On 23-24 February 2010 Professional Development Center for Diplomats held a thematic short-term workshop on diplomatic protocol and etiquette for diplomatic staff.
On February 17-21, 2010 Rector of the Diplomatic Academy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine prof. B. Humeniuk and the Head of Global and Regional Systems Department prof. S. Shergin participated in the international conference «"Yalta system" and the current world order: the problems of global and regional security». The conference was devoted to the 65-th anniversary of the Crimean (Yalta) conference and was held at the Livadia Palace-Museum (Yalta, Autonomous Republic of Crimea) with the participation of leading scientists, scholars, researchers, experts and practitioners from Ukraine and Russia, MPs of ARC, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps of Russia, USA, the United Kingdom and the European Commission to Ukraine.
