The final meeting of the Academic Board of the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine

On December 23 the final meeting of the Academic Board of the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine was held, which examined the results of the Academy performance in 2009. At the meeting Rector of the Academy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine, professor Borys Humeniuk, on the occasion of the Ukrainian Diplomacy Day, handed over the letters of gratitude of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to the best employees of the Academy.
According to the agenda of the meeting, the first issue to discuss was approval of the report of the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in 2009. During the discussion members of the Academic Board emphasized the effectiveness of both teaching and research components of the Academy. However, a number of comments and proposals for specific areas of the Academy were expressed, and specific measures for their improvement were proposed. Annual Report was unanimously approved by all present members of the Academic Board.
The next issue to consider was the results of scientific activities and prospective plan of research of the Foreign Policy Research Institute. Results of the Institute activity got a positive assessment by the members of the Academic Board. During the discussion there were also made practical recommendations on how to improve organizational and financial component of the Institute.
Academic Board approved a preparation plan for scientific and methodological publications of DAU in 2010, and considered the status of preparations of doctoral dissertations of the Academy staff.
Academic Board examined the reports of the first year post-graduate students of the Academy. All 5 post-graduate students fully completed the individual plan of the 2008/2009 academic year, passed the approval at the departments and were positively attested for the first year of their study.
At the meeting the Academic Board also approved a report on the activities of the Specialized Academic Board on awarding doctoral degrees in speciality 07.00.02 .- World History and decided to establish a post-doctoral board with the right to consider and award the Post-Doctoral degrees in the same speciality.

On March 31, 2010 a meeting of the teaching staff and students of the Diplomatic Academy, as well as representatives of research and analytical centers, professors and students from renowned universities in Ukraine was held with leading experts in the field of foreign policy and security Strobe Talbott - a former Deputy of State Secretary in the Clinton administration, the President of the most authoritative American "think tank" Brookings Institution, and Xavier Solana, the former EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy (1999-2009), former NATO Secretary General (1995-1999). Honourable guests visited the Diplomatic Academy on the invitation and due to support of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation and “Yalta European Strategy”. The moderator of the meeting was a well-known Ukrainian journalist Andriy Kulykov.

On March 22, 2010 Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine, MFA of Ukraine and Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University signed the Memorandum of Cooperation for the period of five years.

On February 17-21, 2010 Rector of the Diplomatic Academy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine prof. B. Humeniuk and the Head of Global and Regional Systems Department prof. S. Shergin participated in the international conference «"Yalta system" and the current world order: the problems of global and regional security». The conference was devoted to the 65-th anniversary of the Crimean (Yalta) conference and was held at the Livadia Palace-Museum (Yalta, Autonomous Republic of Crimea) with the participation of leading scientists, scholars, researchers, experts and practitioners from Ukraine and Russia, MPs of ARC, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps of Russia, USA, the United Kingdom and the European Commission to Ukraine.
