Research areas

Guided by the necessity to create a system of research and analysis, forecasting and modeling, of mechanisms to effectively regulate and develop Ukraine's foreign political and diplomatic relations with foreign countries as well as to carry out an educational process at a decent level, the scientific research work at the Academy is conducted within the following main lines:

- to study the issues of Ukraine's foreign policy implementation according to the lines, determined by Ukraine's legislation,

- to conduct scientific research of urgent issues and strategic lines of Ukraine's foreign policy being a tool for securing the national interests of the state,

- to study the characteristics of formation and development of Ukraine's foreign political and diplomatic relations with foreign countries and international organizations,
- to research the development and prospects of Ukraine's co-operation with foreign countries and international, regional and sub-regional organizations,

- to research the issues of providing the effective system of international and regional security including the needs of Ukraine's national security,

- to supply scientific background for the complex and balanced nature of Ukraine's foreign policy, to provide the action sequence in the international arena according to the priorities set by legislation,

- to study the issues of current state and development of Ukraine's modern diplomatic and consular services,

- to provide scientific background for the tasks of Ukraine's affirmation as a powerful and influential regional state which corresponds with her political, economic, scientific, cultural and humanitarian potential and determines Ukraine's prospective role in developing political and economic co-operation both on the European continent and in adjacent regions and enhancing regional stability and security.

On March 31, 2010 a meeting of the teaching staff and students of the Diplomatic Academy, as well as representatives of research and analytical centers, professors and students from renowned universities in Ukraine was held with leading experts in the field of foreign policy and security Strobe Talbott - a former Deputy of State Secretary in the Clinton administration, the President of the most authoritative American "think tank" Brookings Institution, and Xavier Solana, the former EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy (1999-2009), former NATO Secretary General (1995-1999). Honourable guests visited the Diplomatic Academy on the invitation and due to support of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation and “Yalta European Strategy”. The moderator of the meeting was a well-known Ukrainian journalist Andriy Kulykov.

On March 22, 2010 Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine, MFA of Ukraine and Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University signed the Memorandum of Cooperation for the period of five years.

On February 17-21, 2010 Rector of the Diplomatic Academy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine prof. B. Humeniuk and the Head of Global and Regional Systems Department prof. S. Shergin participated in the international conference «"Yalta system" and the current world order: the problems of global and regional security». The conference was devoted to the 65-th anniversary of the Crimean (Yalta) conference and was held at the Livadia Palace-Museum (Yalta, Autonomous Republic of Crimea) with the participation of leading scientists, scholars, researchers, experts and practitioners from Ukraine and Russia, MPs of ARC, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps of Russia, USA, the United Kingdom and the European Commission to Ukraine.
